The past few years have seen a tremendous shift in the way developers are building websites. More users have switched onto mobile platforms, along with newer browsers which support HTML5/CSS3 web standards. There are so many unique ideas flowing out of the design community – it seems like new thresholds are being replaced every few months! In this article I would like to go over some of the most recent trends we have seen evolving. Many of these design ideas have been around for a long time. But I would argue that over 2012 and moving into 2013 these unique ideas will flourish. There are so many open source projects and user interfaces which are offered online completely free for download. This creates an environment where new designers can enter the field and pick up on trends very quickly.

Douglas of PX Media did a fantastic job on my website www.RickisSkinCare.com. He listened to everything I wanted and I couldn’t be happier. I really like his attention to detail. It’s also great to have a web designer who can change things, as i do change my mind and want new things. He is always prompt!
I would highly recommend him. 5 stars!

Top qualities: Professionalism, Respectful, Knowledgeable and very Personable.

Marco and I feel blessed to have Douglas of PX Media in our lives. He came to us through a recommendation as an honest, knowledgeable and efficient web designer / photographer. He is much more than that.

Douglas is one of the nicest, kindest, most respectful persons we have ever met. We felt that from the first communications we exchanged. We basically laid out an outline of what we wanted done, Within five days, there was a budget a plan and a consensus. We started working on this project at the start of October and by the Mid November, it was completed on schedule and within the budget.

Why W3 Total Cache?

With this free guide, you can easily make your WordPress blogs pages load faster than before and save money on hosting bills as you can stay on shared hosting and still make your blog withstand huge amounts of traffic without compromising the performance.

Installing W3 Total Cache (W3TC for short) is just like installing any other plugin for WordPress (super simple via the Dashboard). The default options will make W3TC handle page caching, which it does similarly, and even a bit better, than the WP Super Cache.

But with proper configuration, W3TC does much more, like combining and minifying (compressing & making smaller) JavaScript and CSS-files, and also cache Database queries and make using Content Delivery Network easy (read: automatic). Because of all this, the W3 Total Cache is the best caching plugin for WordPress.

I don’t hate the new Microsoft Windows 8 but… What was your experience?

Windows or Window?

windows8 reviewAn interesting article that I completely agree with. I just got a new computer for my doughtier and the Windows 8 setup was mind bending. I’m a longtime Mac user. I spent many years using Windows and both for maybe 3 years. It’s not about Windows vs Apple. It’s about simplicity, usability and freedom. When I was done with the setup – two days later, I wanted to take it back for a refund.

I found a thorough review of Windows 8. You can read it below:

Hidden features, reduced discoverability, cognitive overhead from dual environments, and reduced power from a single-window UI and low information density. Too bad.

With the recent launch of Windows 8 and the Surface tablets, Microsoft has reversed its user interface strategy. From a traditional Gates-driven GUI style that emphasized powerful commands to the point of featuritis, Microsoft has gone soft and now smothers usability with big colorful tiles while hiding needed features.

Twitter is out of control. I only started doing a bit of work on my Twitter about a week ago. The normal update stuff and the launch of our newly designed web design site. My following has grown like 15 a day. I use to spend hours and many days getting traffic through Twitter for clients and out site. Still trying to pin down what I did :-/

I did so much that it’s hard to go back and find it. I’ll be updating this post when the needle floats to the top.

Enjoy
DG.

Update: I think I found the reason. The key word “startup”. So much talk about startup business is more than likely what’s happening on Twitter. Startup business is going to be the next big boom. It’s not hard to figure out why.

Startup a took quite a beating over the last 5 years and it has already started coming back. Use #startup, #startupbusiness and #SMB within your twitter posts and watch your following jump.

What is the difference between Trackbacks and Pingbacks?

- Trackbacks are manual whereas Pingbacks are automatic (different communication technology).

- Pingbacks do not send any content. In trackbacks an excerpt of the content is sent.
