These are the questions we hear most often from businesses considering or already running Google Local Services Ads. For deeper treatment of any of these topics, follow the links to the relevant pages in our LSA resource library.

  1. What are Google Local Services Ads?
  2. Google Local Services Ads are a pay-per-lead advertising format that places local service businesses at the top of Google search results (above standard paid ads and organic listings). Potential customers contact you directly through the listing by phone or message.

  3. How much do Google Local Services Ads cost?
  4. You pay per lead, per call or message rather than per click. Lead costs vary by service category, location, and competition. You set a weekly budget, and Google draws from it as leads arrive. Actual lead cost estimates are visible in the platform before you set your budget.

  5. What is the Google Verified badge?
  6. The Google Verified badge is Google’s current designation for businesses that have passed the applicable screening process, including background checks, insurance, and required licenses. It replaced the older Google Guaranteed and Google Screened names. The badge appears on your LSA listing and is effectively required for competitive placement. The consumer money-back guarantee previously associated with the badge was discontinued for services booked after December 7, 2025.

  7. What businesses are eligible for Google Local Services Ads?
  8. LSA is available to businesses in supported service categories (primarily home services, professional services, and health services in some markets). Eligibility depends on your specific category and location. Not all categories are available in all markets.

  9. How does LSA billing work?
  10. You set a weekly budget. Google charges per lead, per qualifying call or message against that budget. If the budget is exhausted before the week ends, ads stop showing until the new week. Leads that do not meet Google’s billing criteria can be disputed for a credit.

  11. What leads can be disputed?
  12. Leads that do not meet Google’s billing criteria are disputable. Valid dispute reasons include calls for services you do not offer, calls from outside your service area, duplicate leads, and solicitations or wrong numbers. Leads where the caller needed your service but did not convert are generally not disputable.

  13. What affects my LSA ranking?
  14. LSA ranking is not a bidding auction. Google uses proximity to the searcher, review rating and count, responsiveness to leads, business hours relative to search time, verification status, and account history. Budget size does not directly determine ranking position.

  15. How long does verification take?
  16. Background checks typically complete in a few days. Insurance and license reviews can take one to two weeks. The full process can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks depending on your category, documentation completeness, and Google’s review volume.

  17. Do I need a Google Business Profile to run LSA?
  18. Yes. A verified Google Business Profile is required. It must be claimed, verified, and consistent with your LSA account information.

  19. What does PX Media manage in an LSA account?
  20. PX Media manages setup, verification, service category and service area configuration, budget management, lead review, dispute filing, badge status monitoring, profile optimization, and ongoing performance review. You retain ownership and full visibility of the account at all times.
